The majority of the world’s active geysers are in Yellowstone Nat’l Park. Only 4 other locations in the world have large concentrations of hydrothermal features – Russia, Chile, New Zealand and Iceland. Some of the geysers can be predicted by the rangers and Old Faithful is one of them.

The ground within the geysers area is so thin that you’re not allowed to walk on it. You must stay on the boardwalk.

When you look at the ground on each side of the boardwalk, it looks like marble but these colourful mats contain millions of microorganisms that cannot be touched or disturbed.

We then went and witnessed “Old Faithful” in action. Its average interval between eruptions is about 90 minutes. An eruption lasts 1.5 to 5 minutes, expels 3,700 to 8,400gallons of boiling water and reaches a height of 106 to 184 feet.

Visited the Old Faithful Inn, a National Historic Landmark that was built of local logs and stone in the early 1900. The lobby features a stone fireplace.
